Public Health Departments Preparing for Emergencies Statewide

When public health emergencies happen, we want to make sure we’re prepared. On September 24, 2025, officials with the Fulton County Board of Health participated with other districts across the state in an integrated preparedness planning workshop.

“We want to make sure that we’re ready for any public health emergencies that may arise in our area. And with the FIFA World Cup and other events coming up, this training and others like it are more important than ever to ensure we’re on top of any potential threats,” says Emergency Preparedness Director Donald Porter.

The statewide virtual meeting included presentations along with breakout sessions for the individual districts to practice what they learned. The training sessions included information on exercise and response readiness frameworks that addressed various types of incidents, budget and coordination, and preparatory drills.

The Fulton County Board of Health’s Office of Emergency Preparedness is responsible for developing and implementing plans to address and protect the health and safety of the community when emergencies and disasters occur. The office is one of the most involved in responding to the aftermath of severe weather or natural disasters where medical and public health services are needed, as well as distribution of clean water and food.
