Preventing viral respiratory diseases during cooler months

The Fulton County Board of Health wants the public to take precautions to avoid getting sick

Viral respiratory diseases such as COVID-19, the flu, and RSV usually spread more quickly during the fall and winter months. The Fulton County Board of Health wants to make sure the public is taking precautions to avoid getting sick.

Ways to prevent the spread of viral respiratory diseases:

  • Wearing a well-fitted mask that covers your nose and mouth
  • Washing hands regularly
  • Physical distancing by keeping enough space in between yourself and others
  • Cleaning commonly touched surfaces
  • Taking steps to have cleaner air circulation in places such as the workplace and at home

If you do get sick, stay at home and away from others as much as possible to avoid spreading the virus. You are likely to be less contagious after your symptoms have fully resolved. Symptoms can include chills, cough, fatigue, fever, muscle/body aches, runny/stuffy nose, sore throat, and/or weakness. Keep in mind that you may still be able to spread viruses even if you are feeling better. If your symptoms are improving, and you have not had a fever and are not using fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours, you can resume normal activities again.

If you have any questions or concerns about viral respiratory diseases in Fulton County, call the epidemiology department at the Fulton County Board of Health at 770-520-7500 and pick option 7.
