ATLANTA – The Fulton County Board of Health’s Community Outreach Department held a women’s empowerment event to honor the special ladies in our lives. “Women’s Empowerment Day” was held Tuesday, July 28 at our Oak Hill location. The goal was to honor women, specifically mothers, and their hard work and service to their families.
The event featured vendors from across the county such as financial institutions and local organizations dedicated to serving members of the community. There was also a guest speaker who discussed the importance of women taking time for themselves and practicing self-care through daily affirmations, personal hobbies, and activities that give them time to focus solely on their well-being. There were also multiple raffle giveaways throughout the event in which attendees chose a prize from a variety of options. Attendees received a ticket once they arrived at the event for the raffles.
After the event, a representative with Safe Kids also gave a car seat safety class to teach mothers the proper way to put children in them when riding in a vehicle. The class went through the basic components of a car seat and how to safely secure children in them before riding in a vehicle. Participants also received a free car seat after filling out a form and providing their WIC or Medicaid number.
Safe Kids Fulton County is led by the Board of Health’s Division of Health Promotion. The coalition is dedicated to preventing avoidable childhood injuries and promoting the health and safety of children through education, advocacy, and community partnerships. Based on the needs of the community, this coalition implements evidence-based programs such as car seat safety workshops, sports clinics, and helping parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.
